Let’s Give It to the Women
Author: admin
09 21st, 2006In a Reuter’s story yesterday, reprinted at Common Dreams, CNN founder Ted Turner said that one way to reduce the dangers in the world–military invasions and nuclear weapons–is to leave women in charge.
OK. I don’t know if it will work, but I’ll go with that experiment if you are willing.
“Men should be barred from public office for 100 years in every part of the world. … It would be a much kinder, gentler, more intelligently run world. The men have had millions of years where we’ve been running things. We’ve screwed it up hopelessly. Let’s give it to the women.”

Progressive Radio

09 14th, 2006Air America, frequently rumored to be ready to file for bancruptcy, is saying that they will NOT be filing. I think this may be a IBIWISI (I’ll Believe It When I See It) situation. I’ve never quite understood the appeal of the argumentative talk radio format. I used to watch Al Franken on the Sundance Channel on occasion, but it didn’t grab hold of me. Why listen to endless hash and rehash?
Well, someone likes it, and I like knowing Air America is there even if I can’t quite stand it myself.
I’m also curious to find out more about Green Stone Media, a new radio talk radio group that is “not a left-wing or feminist network” despite the involvement of Gloria Steinem and Jane Fonda. I have to invoke IBIWISI again. (Say it “EE-bee-wheez-ee.”) I’ll believe it when I see it and when I hear it. You can listen to a few programs on their site.
I’ll try to squeeze it in, but if they yell at me and insult my intelligence, I’m leaving.
We Will Not Be Silenced

09 11th, 2006Wow. I think I will wake up every morning and listen to this speech about the war in Iraq, set to Flash animation by DJ Paul Edge at We Will Not Be Silenced .com. Nonviolent resistence is where it’s at. Thanks to Tom Paine .commonsense for the link.
Squashing dissent

09 11th, 2006Yesterday, my husband described a syndicated article in the morning newspaper that called the Republican Party an “extra-constitutional institution” and “quasi-governmental organzation,” making the case to lessen its power. Wow, I wanted to read that.
It turned out that this was just a letter to the editor about the differences between pro-Bush and anti-Bush rallies in Salt Lake City during the American Legion convention. I’m sorry to hear that this isn’t a nationally syndicated column, but it’s still a good read.
The Republican Party has become a quasi-governmental organization under the Bush administration. The evidence of this continues to mount, starting with overthrowing the 2000 presidential elections by conspiring to make mass challenges to opposition voters.
Read more of the letter from Nate Smith at the Salt Lake Tribune, and find out how he was kicked and threatened at the pro-Bush rally.
Decent Dissent TV

09 1st, 2006Holy fascism! I thought it would be slightly radical to bring back That’s My Bush to Comedy Centralized. (OK, not radical, but it would make me want to watch tv.) As reported on Alternet blog The Mix, a digital channel in Britain will be airing a fictional retrospective film about the 2007 assassination of George Bush. They say it’s “a sophisticated piece of work.” Any bets on whether it will air in the US?
